ABOUT EVANTHIA

A specialist in autism and ADHD assessment

Evanthia Soteriou is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Cyprus with a specialist clinical focus on the assessment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) across the lifespan. She works with children, adolescents and adults and has developed particular clinical interest and focus in understanding the diverse and often complex ways neurodevelopmental differences can present across age, gender and different stages of life.

Evanthia holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Leicester, UK, and a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from European University Cyprus. Her interest in neurodevelopmental presentations developed through her academic training and has since become an important focus of her specialist training and clinical practice.

She has completed specialist training in the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – Second Edition (ADOS-2) through Pearson Clinical UK and is trained in its administration across different ages and developmental levels. Her clinical experience includes autism assessment across the lifespan, alongside therapeutic work with autistic adolescents and adults.

Evanthia has also undertaken specialist training in the assessment and diagnosis of ADHD in children, adolescents and adults. Her training encompasses clinical and developmental assessment, standardised psychometric measures, executive functioning and the evaluation of how ADHD characteristics affect an individual across different areas of life. She has additionally completed certified training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for the management of ADHD in adults and has experience supporting adults with ADHD with executive functioning, organisation, attention, emotional regulation and the demands of everyday life.

A central part of Evanthia’s clinical work is recognising that autism and ADHD do not have one single presentation. Characteristics may be expressed differently across childhood, adolescence and adulthood, may vary between genders, and may become more or less apparent as an individual’s environment, responsibilities and coping strategies change throughout life. She is attentive to these differences, including the ways individuals may learn to adapt, compensate or develop strategies that can make their underlying difficulties less immediately visible.

Her approach to assessment goes beyond identifying symptoms or completing a diagnostic checklist. Evanthia combines specialist clinical knowledge and judgement with validated assessment tools, careful clinical observation and an extensive developmental history. Where appropriate, information from parents, family members, schools and other professionals is incorporated to understand how an individual has developed and functions across different contexts.

At the centre of every assessment is the individual rather than the diagnosis. Evanthia seeks to understand not only what a person finds difficult, but also their strengths, abilities, relationships, interests, experiences and individual way of understanding and navigating the world. She considers how neurodevelopmental characteristics interact with the person’s development, environment and everyday functioning, allowing for a more nuanced and clinically meaningful formulation.

Her aim is for an assessment to provide more than an answer to the question of diagnosis. It should offer the individual and their family a clearer understanding of their developmental profile, strengths, areas of difficulty and support needs, while maintaining the objectivity, ethical standards and clinical reliability required of a formal psychological assessment.

Evanthia is committed to continued professional development and evidence-based practice, ensuring that her knowledge of autism, ADHD and neurodevelopmental assessment continues to evolve alongside current clinical research and practice.
